Set response limits
- 1Open the survey in the builder and go to the “Settings” tab.
- 2In “Response Limits”, enter the number of completed responses you want to collect in “Max Responses”. Leave it empty for unlimited responses.
- 3Set when the survey opens and closes with “Start Date” and “End Date”.
- 4Times are interpreted in the time zone stated under the fields. Keep this in mind for respondents in other time zones.
What happens when a limit is reached?
- “Max Responses” counts completed responses only. When the number is reached, the survey closes to new starts and respondents see “This survey has reached its maximum number of responses.”
- After the end date, respondents see “This survey has expired.”
- If the survey is not active, respondents see “This survey is not currently active.”
- These closing messages are fixed and cannot be edited.
Pick your target group with screening rules
- 1Add a screening question at the start of the survey, for example an age range or whether they use the product.
- 2On the “Logic” tab, use “Add Rule” to set a condition on that question.
- 3Choose “Disqualify” as the action. For a respondent who meets the condition the survey ends, they see “You do not meet the criteria for this survey.” and the response status becomes “Disqualified”.
- 4Try the rule with “Path test” on the “Flow” tab.
Demographic quota cells are not available at the moment; for target groups you can use screening logic and the overall response limit.
Plan limits
Plans define the scope of use through the number of active surveys and responses per year. The Free plan's scope also includes 100 responses per survey. These limits are separate from the “Max Responses” field in the survey settings.
Current limits and prices for each plan are on the pricing page.
About duplicate responses
The “Response Behavior” section of the Settings tab has a “One response per participant” switch. However, this switch is not a guarantee that the same person will not respond more than once.
A cookie kept in the browser only lets a respondent continue an unfinished response in that same browser. The cookie can be cleared, and the survey can be filled in again from another browser or device. To weed out duplicates, you can pass a participant identifier with a Hidden Field and review the time columns in the exported file.
